About SRC

The Sugarcane Research Centre (SRC), Kashipur was established on July 14, 1974 under the U.P. Council of Sugarcane Research, Shahjahanpur (Uttar Pradesh) with the objective of providing high quality, genetically pure, disease and insect free breeder seed of sugarcane to farmers. Following the formation of Uttarakhand State, the Centre was transferred to the Department of Cane and Sugar, Government of Uttarakhand on May 1, 2002 and subsequently brought under the administration of G.B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar on September 20, 2002. Since then, the Centre has been actively engaged in sugarcane development and research activities in the state.
The Centre is located at 29.18° N latitude and 79.00° E longitude, at an altitude of 235 m above mean sea level. The climate of the region is humid subtropical with maximum temperatures ranging from 28°C to 42°C during summer and minimum temperatures varying from 2°C to 13°C during winter. Frost generally occurs from the last week of December to the first week of February. The average annual precipitation is approximately 948 mm with the monsoon extending from the third week of June to mid September. Heavy rainfall during July and August accounts for nearly 80% of the total annual precipitation. The soils of the region vary from sandy loam to clay loam in texture with a pH ranging from 7.1 to 7.3.
The Centre maintains more than 50 sugarcane varieties and germplasm lines. High quality breeder seed of important sugarcane varieties viz., CoPant 12221, CoPant 12226, CoPant 13224, CoS 13235, CoS 88230, CoS 17231, CoS 18231, CoS 19231, CoLK 16202, CoLK 14201, CoLK 15260, Co 0118, Co 98014, Co 15023, Co 05011, Co 17018 and CoPb 17215 etc., is produced and supplied to farmers under the overall supervision of the Department of Cane and Sugar, Uttarakhand.
