About MRTC
The Mushroom Research Laboratory, constructed in 1988, was formally inaugurated on 26th January 1989. It was strengthened and renamed as the Mushroom Research and Production Centre on January 26th, 1998. Further, the addition of a training unit, composting unit, research lab, classroom, museum, etc. brought it to the level of Mushroom Research and Training Centre on April 05, 2003, by the Board of Management of the University. The centre is designed to provide research and development support for the mushroom development program of the Uttarakhand state and nation. Since starting, this centre is not only contributing a lead role to train the people in mushroom science and technology but also educating the graduates and post-graduates’ students of university along with research work on mushrooms and applied mycology. The lectures and practical work of all the training programs conducted at the centre are delivered by experienced teachers and staff of Pantnagar University. The centre always commits to good training programs.
Mandate:
- To undertake basic, strategic, and applied research, and validate innovative technologies for enhancing the productivity, quality, and sustainability of edible and medicinal mushrooms.
- To serve as a national information and resource centre for edible and medicinal mushrooms by collecting, generating, and disseminating scientific knowledge.
- To provide scientific support, coordinate research and development activities, and facilitate technology transfer for the promotion of mushroom cultivation and entrepreneurship.
- To develop and standardize improved production, spawn, disease management, and value-addition technologies for mushrooms.
- To conduct research on the biology, ecology, conservation, and cultivation of economically important elite mushrooms.
- To impart training and capacity-building programmes for scientists, extension personnel, entrepreneurs, and mushroom growers.
- To promote sustainable mushroom cultivation through effective utilization of agricultural and horticultural wastes and eco-friendly production technologies.
Ongoing Research Activities:
- Development of improved production technologies for edible mushrooms using various agricultural and horticultural wastes.
- Standardization of spawn production techniques and improvement of spawn quality.
- Development of value-added mushroom products and assessment of their nutritional quality.
- Development and demonstration of low-cost mushroom production technologies for farmers of Uttarakhand.
- Collection Wild mushrooms from Uttarakhand state
Salient accomplishment :
- Transfer of mushroom drying technology to Daksh Enterprises Kichha was successfully done on 03.03.2024.
- Promote off-season cultivation of button mushrooms at MRTC.
- Certificate of excellence is awarded by ICAR Directorate Mushroom Research, Chambaghat, Solan (HP) in appreciation for outstanding contribution in research activities during the year 2023-24 to the AICRP-Mushroom, GBPUAT, Pantnagar.
- As per the recommendation of the Sixth Dean Committee, a new two-credit course Mushroom Cultivation Technology (App-452) has developed for agriculture graduate students.
- Grant patent for Pant Mushroom Composting Machine Patent no. 554276 dt. 13.11.2024
- For the first time, efforts were made to produce brown mushroom at the Mushroom Research and Training Centre.
- During last five years 5 research adhoc projects were handled at MRTC
- All Weather Crop Room for mushroom production is established at Mushroom Research and Training Centre, Pantnagar for year-round mushroom production.
- Production and supply of quality mushroom spawn to farmers, entrepreneurs, and institutions.
- Production and supply of compost for commercial mushroom cultivation.
- Development and promotion of value-added mushroom products and processing technologies.
- Training programmes on medicinal mushrooms, their cultivation, processing, and utilization.
