With the technical assistance of the National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources and financial support of DASP-UA, this centre became operational in1999.This is a regional resource centre for collection, maintenance, evaluation and quarantine of elite horticultural germplams and native diversity of horticultural plants specific to the needs of Uttarakhand. At this centre, a good infrastructure in the form of well-equipped laboratories have been created. This includes plant molecular lab., seed technology lab., plant quarantine lab., and evaluation lab, besides medium-term storage module for safe storage of germplasms seeds. The centre has been recognized as active germplasm site by the N.B. P.G.R.
